The English language is very difficult. Something that many of us take for granted can be a life long struggle for many. We are blessed to have Flor in our house. She has been here since June and studying English daily. The next time you hear someone make a comment that “those foreigners should just learn English or get out of the country” think about how difficult it would be for you to learn a second language. Many people aren’t as fortunate as Flor to be able to take daily ESL classes and have native English speakers working daily with them.
With that being said I was very proud to read Flor’s first essay that she was required to write. While some of the sentences aren’t phrased correctly it sure is remarkable to see the progress she has made in just 2 months.

Our exchange student, Flor de Maria Ordonez-Gonazalez has arrived in the United States. We went to the airport today to meet her and the 13 other Guatemalan exchange students today. The students came through the Guatemalan Student Support Group We were also lucky to meet someone over the weekend who is living in Grand Rapids but just moved to the US from Guatemala a few years ago. He and his father came over to dinner to night to help with translation and welcome Flor to the our home and the United States. Flor seems to be a very loving girl and I’m sure is going to fit right into our home. She had a chance to call her parents this evening and you could hear the excitement in her voice. Some pictures…

I’m probably not the only one looking forward to the tax rebate that is coming later this year. We’ll do our part as good citizens of this country and try and stimulate the economy. However, one does have reflect on this quote in light of the money that Congress is “giving” us.
“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s own money “
~ Alexis de Tocqueville

Regardless of your political affiliation, December 16, will be an important date to watch. Ron Paul supporters are organizing the Tea Party 07 which they hope to raise $10 Million dollars in one day. If they succeed this will be largest single day fund raiser in US Politics. It may also prove as the tipping point for Paul to be taken seriously and give him momentum for the primaries in January.

Montana Mania hit the Yared household this week. Thanks to a hot tip we were able to score some tickets online over the weekend. A huge Stretch Limo picked up Elizabeth and a bunch of her Kindergarten friends (and their moms!) and wisked them to the concert downtown. They’ve just gotten back but all reports is it was a great show!
